Coast Capital will join Canada in recognizing the inaugural National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.

On September 30, Coast Capital will join Canada in recognizing the inaugural National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. The new statutory holiday has been created to give everyone an opportunity to recognize and commemorate the legacy of residential schools, which more than 150,000 First Nations, Metis and Inuit children were forced to attend between the 1870s and 1997.

Coast Capital proudly joins the federally regulated workforce to honour the survivors of Canada’s residential school system, their families, and their communities.

To observe this important day in Canada’s history, Coast Capital’s branches, offices, and advice centre will be closed, as employees are encouraged to use this as a day of reflection and education.

To support Coast Capital teams and employees to better understand the lived experience of Indigenous Peoples, Coast Capital and its Indigenous Employee Resource Group, have been rolling out education resources, to arm employees with tools to take steps toward reconciliation.

Coast Capital continues to make the support of Indigenous communities a priority through community investments including a donation of $30,000 to the Indian Residential School Survivors Society (IRSS) this month. IRSS has a 20-year history of providing services to the Indian Residential School Survivors, their families, and those dealing with Intergenerational trauma. Coast Capital also has an ongoing commitment to create reconciliation goals in partnership with local Indigenous communities.
