Check out our tutorials and common questions to learn how to get the most out of your digital banking experience.

Digital Banking FAQ

General questions

To put it simply, we want to make banking easier for our members and give them the ability to do more.

The upgrades will help us continue to be a leading-edge digital credit union and meet the growing needs of our members.

Enhancing our digital offerings will help support our national expansion as a federal credit union, but it'll also allow us to keep up with the growing needs of our existing members in an increasingly digital world.

You’ll begin to notice some changes starting this summer, with continual upgrades taking place throughout the rest of 2019.

We’re enhancing previous features and also launching new ones. For a breakdown of some of the changes, click here.

Many of the key digital banking features you use every day will still be available, but they’ll have a refreshed look, including:

  • Account history and transaction downloads
  • Bill payments (Immediate, Recurring & Scheduled)
  • Member transfers within your own membership as well as transfers made to other members
  • Interac® e-Transfers
  • e-Statements
  • Deposit On-the-go
  • Cheque images
  • Take Charge Money Manager™ (Spending, Budgets, and External Accounts)
  • Find a Branch/ATM

When it’s time to start using the enhanced digital banking, you’ll get a notification when you attempt to log in to online banking. If you’re on desktop, this will be through a pop-up message. If you’re on mobile, you’ll be prompted to download our new app.

There are a few things that could be going on.

1.If you’ve migrated over to the new digital banking through desktop, you need to download our new app.

2. If you haven’t migrated yet and your app isn’t working, this could mean it’s time to migrate! You can do so on a desktop or by downloading our new app. The new app will be the white box with the blue Coast Capital logo.

Get the new app from Apple's App Store and Google's Play Store. Don’t forget to delete the old one.

3. If you downloaded the new app before getting prompted to do so or a notification on desktop to set up a new login, you’ll get an error message in the new app. Please keep using the old app until you get a notification or prompt to switch.

Our functionality with Mint was impacted due to recent security enhancements. We are looking into whether this is something we are able to offer.

You'll be prompted to enable location services when the app is first installed. This will enhance your experience for features like the branch/ATM locator, but it is not required. However, if you don’t wish to use location services, you can select “No” and log in normally.

Common Solutions

Since Deposit On-the-go relies on photographs, make sure yours is in tip top shape. Take your photos under bright lighting with minimal shadows and make sure the entire cheque is visible in the frame.

If you’re still experiencing problems, try these troubleshooting steps:

  1. Click Settings on your phone

  2. Scroll down to the application manager or the app list within settings

  3. Click on the Coast Capital app and clear the cache

  4. Once cleared, click on the Camera app in the application manager/app list

  5. Click “Force Stop”

  6. Open the Camera to test a picture

  7. Open the Coast Capital app and try using Deposit On-the-go again

If you’re outside of BC, please pay your bills through desktop banking or by accessing banking.coastcapitalsavings.com from your mobile phone. And rest assured, we’re working on a fix so you’ll be able to pay your bills through our app soon!

This is an intermittent event that some members are experiencing and we’re working on a fix. In the meantime, you can access e-Transfers through our mobile app. If you prefer using digital banking on desktop, try accessing it through an incognito browser. If you are still having issues, try again later.

This is an error happening on our end that we’re working to fix as soon as possible. If you were paying a bill, clear your cache and double check your accounts before trying again as the payment may have gone through.

Our functionality with some 3rd party aggregators has been temporarily impacted due to recent security enhancements. We are aware of these issues and are working with our partners to ensure that functionality is returned to normal

Going forward, you won’t log in with your PAN (the last 8 digits of your debit card) or your PAC (7 digit Personal Access Code). You’ll use your username and password which you’ll set up the first time you log in.

The first time you log in:

Step 1: Log in using your current login credentials

That’s the last 8 digits on your debit card (your PAN) and your 7-digit Personal Access Code (your PAC).

Step 2: Set up a new username

Choose something you like because once you create it, you won’t be able to change it.

Step 3: Set up a new password

It’ll have to be 10 characters minimum and will include 1 uppercase letter and 1 symbol.

Step 4: Verify your identity

You’ll need to enter your phone number and/or email address. We’ll send you a code either through a text message or email. Enter that code in the verification pop-up, click confirm and verify the details of your new login.

You’ll be able to see all of your Coast Capital memberships under a single username.

Yes. A username can be up to 21 characters long. For passwords, the maximum length is 128 characters.

You can call our Contact Centre or visit a branch to reset passwords and unlock accounts.

You’ll still be required to authenticate yourself using your current login credentials, which are the last 8 digits of your debit card (your PAN) and your 7-digit Personal Access Code (your PAC), through the Contact Centre and telephone banking.

We’ve replaced this feature with Favourites which will give you the ability to quickly and easily transfer funds to the people you regularly send money to.

It’s a 7 or 8 digit security code that we’ll send you through a text message to your mobile phone or through email when you complete the following transactions:

  • Adding a new bill vendor (for each new bill vendor added)
  • Updating contact information
  • Adding an e-Transfer recipient
  • Password change

If our system detects unusual activity, like logging in from a new device or location, you might be asked to enter a one-time security code when you log in. From time-to-time, this might also happen while paying a bill or transferring funds.

At the moment, you’re unable to change your username. We are working on the ability to change your username as a future enhancement.

Currently, you can call us at 1.888.517.7000 or come into a branch and we can assist with recovering your username. We will be launching a self-serve username recovery feature and a change username feature in late 2020, so keep your eyes peeled for that.

If you’re seeing an error that says “Oops, sorry, something went wrong.” or are seeing a blank screen when you get to the login page, please check your ad blocker settings and if that doesn’t fix this, please try using a different browser or simply use a private browsing mode.

Common Questions

If you already have a TFSA or RRSP at Coast Capital, you can open another account or term deposit of the same type. If you want to open an account type you have never had at Coast Capital before, please visit a branch.

When opening a GIC, we will ask you which account you want to fund the GIC from. If you are opening an RRSP or TFSA GIC, you need to fund it from an existing TFSA or RRSP account in your Coast Capital membership. Likewise, if you are opening a regular GIC, it cannot be funded from a TFSA or RRSP account.

If you are opening a TFSA or RRSP GIC and don’t have any funds in your existing TFSA or RRSP, simply perform a transfer into the account first. Remember to be aware of your contribution limits when making TFSA and RRSP deposits.

  • Because TFSAs and RRSPs are registered plans, the first time you open one we will create a contract for you.

  • Once you have your first TFSA or RRSP opened in-branch, you will be able to open additional accounts of the same type as well term deposits online.

  • TFSA contracts are different from RRSP contracts; to open both, you need a contract for each. We can do this for you in-branch.

  • If you are trying to open an account or term deposit online and you get a message saying you need a contract, it just means you don’t have an existing one in place. Please visit a branch.

Some products are not available online. If you see something on our website that isn’t available in digital banking, please visit a branch or contact us at 1.888.517.7000.

Once an account or GIC is open, you will be able to view it in your Account Overview.

    Transport Layer Security (TLS) Encryption

TLS stands for Transport Layer Security (TLS). This technology allows users to establish sessions with Internet sites that are secure, meaning they have minimal risk of external violation. Once inside the Coast Online Banking site, you are secure through our use of SSL technology. Encryption is the process of scrambling information into a more secure format for transmission. This means that plain text is converted (encrypted) to a scrambled code while transmitting, and then changed back (decrypted) to plain text at the receiving end of the transmission.

Coast Online Banking uses two kinds of cookies - session cookies and persistent cookies. We use a session cookie to maintain the integrity of your Internet banking session, and we use persistent cookies in optional enhanced features such as the saved Member Cards and saved member transfers features. Solutions for Digital Banking

    What you’ll need for success

When it's time to upgrade to the new digital banking experience, you'll receive a notification when you log in to online banking on desktop, or you’ll get a prompt to download our new app.  Be sure to have the following on hand to get started:

    • Your current Personal Access Number (PAN) – the last eight digits of your Member/debit card
    • Your current Personal Access Code – the seven digit access code you use for online and telephone banking.

Important things to note in the set-up process

    • Be sure to check your junk email folder if you do not receive your one-time security code in the set-up process, or mark it as “not junk mail” to ensure it doesn’t go there again. Please note: As there may be a delay in the delivery of the one-time security code, please wait a few minutes to receive this key item in your email. Do NOT click the ‘Retrieve Password’ button multiple times.

What you’ll need to do for continued success

    • Take measures to remember your new User Name and new Password. Do NOT write them down. Instead take time to create a mental association in your mind to recall them when needed.
    • Once you’ve setup your username and password, you can no longer use your Personal Access Number and Code to log in to digital banking (Please note: this information is still important for contacting our Contact Centre). If you try to use these numbers for digital banking after three attempts you will be locked out for 24 hours.
    • Forget your password? You can reset it yourself by using the self-serve option. Simply click the “Forgot Password?” button available on your phone, tablet or personal computer and follow the prompt.
    • Once you have migrated, do NOT use the Coast Capital App with the blue background and delete it from your mobile phone. Only use the Coast Capital App with the white background.
