Coast Capital Savings helps the Surrey Food Bank through their summer food shortage

Surrey, B.C.: Coast Capital announced today that their summer food drive raised $4,676.52 and 1,117 pounds of food for the Surrey Food Bank.

Friendly competition and weekly fundraisers fueled the generous giving spirit of Coast Capital’s back office departments at the credit union’s Surrey Help Headquarters. The fundraisers ranged from a staff BBQ to a “can”struction sand castle competition to raise money and gather non-perishable donations for the Surrey Food Bank.

“At Coast Capital Savings, having fun and helping our communities is in our DNA,” said Lawrie Ferguson, Chief Marketing Officer, Coast Capital Savings. “Through our fun and competitive fundraisers for the Surrey Food Bank, we were able to rally our team spirit, have fun and, most importantly, make a positive impact. We have deep roots in Surrey and it’s great to support the good and important work that the Surrey Food Bank does year round.”

Like most Canadian food banks, donations to the Surrey Food Bank are at their lowest during the summer months, even though the needs of their clients do not change. In fact, their needs increase as school breakfast and lunch programs are closed for the summer months. This puts additional pressure on families and individuals who rely on these programs for food security.

“Hunger knows no season, and during this lean time of year, donations of food and money are greatly appreciated. We thank Coast Capital for their generosity, support and efforts in helping us grow our community beyond hunger,” said Feezah Jaffer, Associate Executive Director, Surrey Food Bank. “This wonderful donation will directly help support over-14,000 low income clients in Surrey and North Delta who access our food bank monthly.”
